
Together with all the interesting places to visit in the village of Kolymbari, there are many other places around or near it that you must try to see. At the north of the island near Kolymbari, the archeological site of Diktynna is located. This is a scared place in honor of Artemis Vritomaritis, which flourished during the Roman period. The site is accessible via the road staring from the village Rodopos and is worth seeing.
On the west o Crete and 9 km away from Kolymbari, with about 15.000 inhabitants, Kissamos has a grate history. The port of Kissamos links Crete to the nearest island of Kythira and Kalamata, Gythion and even Piraeus. Moreover, you can find there banks, a post Office, bus station, telephone center , health center, camping site, car and motorbike rental offices, as well as interesting shops to visit.
From there you can continue by visiting the archaeological sites of Falassarna, Polirrinia, the islands of Gramvoussa the beautiful gorges of Sirikari, Rokka and Topolia, the overlooking cave of St. Sophie (Agia Sofia), the lagoon of Balos, the medieval villages etc.
