The capital of Crete and 5th largest city in Greece, contains many treasures and is a hive of activity. Its population is around 100,000 and it is the commercial and industrial centre of the island.
The old city is surrounded by Venetian walls and facing the harbour are the ancient vaults and Venetian fortress.
Once you have tired of the wonderful shopping areas a variety of street vendors can easily entice you. More so on the front harbour you will find many Ouzeries, which specialise in meze snacks which should be washed down with a glass or two of ouzo or raki!
To the south east of this City it has been blessed with the King Minos Palace “Knossos” now declared more important than nemesis today.
