Chrissi Akti 4km from Chania and under the municipality of Nea Kydonias lies to the west of Chania. Its crossing is the introduction to the island amidst a verdant landscape to reach the southernmost point in Europe, the islet of Gavdos. It is an ideal coastal village, which offers superb bays and coves for swimming both popular during winter and especially summer.
Chrissi Akti especially known for its golden sands and therefore named after is one of the most popular due to the fact that it has been awarded a Blue Flag from the EEC.
Also situated at Chrissi Akti one can find the monument dedicated to the German paratroopers killed in the invasion of 1941, situated near to the main road at the entrance of the prefecture. It is in the form an eagle and is locally known as the “Evil Bird”.
The area known for its natural park offers cool afternoons for picnics and a haven for the keen walker.
The area provides an opportunity for sight-seeing with quiet clean beaches, Iguana Beach being one of the favourites and short trips by caciques.
