Together with all the interesting places to visit in the village of Platanias, there are a number of other areas to visit close by. Passing through the district and over the bridge of the river Keritis (Lardanos), leads to a number of traditional villages such as Vrises that owes its name to the word Fountains, swamped with orange and olive trees which is the main trade of the locals.
A twin peak hill just above the village Kastelos and Agios Georgios is another characteristic landmark, which offers one of the major archaeological interests of post Minoan time. Many artefacts were found here and are now displayed in the national archaeological museum of Chania. Just a little further down is the site of Kera Spiliotissa that also has findings from the Neolithic era.
The village of Patelari reminds us that it paid a heavy toll for its struggle against the German occupation on the 9th July 1941 and not forgetting the village of Gerani which today is the official centre of the newly established municipality of Platanias.
