Education

Appointed by the Greek State education is provided from kindergarten to university level.  Also offering an abundance of “Frodistirio's”  extra education classes, and now widely private schooling can be found in the mainland and many of her islands.

Compulsory years of education are six years of primary, and three years of secondary, Gymnasium.  After graduating from the Gymnasium, students continue with a three year course in the Lyceum which prepares them for further higher education.

Normally, children attend school from 6-18, five days a week from approximately 8.00am to 2.00pm although now due to many household working mums, 16.00pm.  Summer vacations runs from the end of June to mid September.

There are 17 state universities, schools of higher education and technical colleges.  Admission to the universities are determined by heavy competitive examinations held throughout Greece.
